Hemp vs Marijuana
The plants hemp and marijuana are related but not the same. Both are derivatives of cannabis (cannabis genus), which is a flowering plant that has been utilised for centuries, across the world, for medicinal and recreational uses.
Hemp is a variation of the cannabis plant species that contains high levels of CBD, and minimal traces of THC (the psychoactive component). CBD cannot make you 'high', is completely legal, and evidence suggests has many therapeutic benefits for a wide range of conditions.
As a comparison, marijuana contains smaller amounts of CBD but larger amounts of THC, and is the more commonly known version of cannabis. Marijuana is not legal in the UK due to having elevated levels of THC.
Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil
Hemp oil products have been popular for a long time, especially in the skincare category. There is a significant difference though between hemp oil and CBD oil.
Hemp oil comes from hemp seeds and is a nourishing blend of nutrients, which is great for cooking or supplementation in cosmetics.
CBD oil comes from the same plant, the hemp plant, but from the flowers, stalk and leaves. It interacts directly with our body’s own endocannabinoid system and therefore has many more benefits for a number of ailments.
